The Anglo Tango
Cabaret Songs: The Anglo Tango
text by Rodney Sharman
When I was young
I traveled far and frequently and cheap
So many francs and pounds and yen
Were mine to spend or keep.
No place seemed too expensive,
No milieu seemed out of reach,
My tastes were soon quite rafiné
Who knew P.Q. and Meech
Would cut my spending power
Make a Swiss franc worth a dollar
Keep me close to home for now or
Turn a trip to Bellingham into a treat.
I study the exchange rates and I weep!
I Blame Québec!
I Blame Québec!
Bouchard, Parizeau, Lévesque...
Who knew a speech from Parizeau
Could make a dollar sink so low
Could turn a trip to Buffalo
Into a rare, expensive, savoured foreign treat!
I study the exchange rates and I weep.
I Blame Québec!
I Blame Québec!
Bouchard, Parizeau, Levesque...
And now I'm homebound
For months I'm snowbound
I'm captive to a currency that's weak
I study the exchange rates and I weep
It's not that I don't like Québec
The hills of Montréal
Have sculpted calves and quads and thighs
and buns on boys of every size... (fermata)
Who can help but have a soft spot
For a boy that's got a hot bot
Still within there lurks a danger
Just to spank them than to savour
All the pleasures that an Anglo girl (boy) could seek
When I recall our dollars can't compete.
I Blame Québec!
I Blame Québec!
Bouchard, Parizeau, Lévesque...
I Blame Québec!
I Blame Québec!
Bouchard, Parizeau, Lévesque...
Who knew a speech from Bouchard's lips
Would long curtail my foreign trips
That his addresses to Wall Street's elite
Would turn my bucks to chicken feed... (fermata)
I study the exchange rates and I weep!
