The Garden

In June, 1999, pianist Anthony de Mare will give the first performance of The Garden, a one-man pocket opera written especially for Mr. de Mare's recital of piano/vocal work, "Playing with Myself", NYC, NY. Music is by Rodney Sharman, libretto by Peter Eliot Weiss, playwright and director. Peter Elliot Weiss is a founding member of Out West, playwright of "Sex Tips for Modern Girls",  "Remembering Shanghai", etc. He lives in Toronto, where he is finishing a PhD in drama, specializing in early Italian opera.

THE GARDEN (2001) was written especially for the many talents of pianist Anthony de Mare. Text is by Peter Eliot Weiss, Toronto (playwright: "Sex Tips for Modern Girls", "Remembering Shanghai"). The piece was commissioned by Anthony de Mare through the generosity of the Canada Council Music Commissioning Program. The piece is about Tony's first time at "The Garden" (a notorious gay club), the politics of men kissing men, and a life transformed by single, perfect kiss.
