Cordes Vides for string quartet
Cordes Vides (1989) for string quartet was written in response to a request for a new work for a programme called "serious fun" by the Arditti String Quartet. Except for the final measures, the piece is played entirely on the open strings of the violins, viola and 'cello; the first violin's highest string is retuned one semi-tone higher. - Rodney Sharman
